(The contents of this article are compiled from previous posts I’d made over time.)
In this article I’ll explain how I run Beyond Porno, and give you some pointers on how you can better enjoy viewing the site.
Atemporality
When new images are posted, the whole archive is reviewed, and images I no longer love are deleted.
This has two effects:
First, incoming links from other sites become invalid. This is antithetical to the blogging maxim of growing a network of mutually connected permalinks for the purpose of spreading your meme.
More importantly though, the site ceases to function as a chronological “log”, instead becoming an ever-changing fingerprint.
The message is no longer “This is what I have thought”.
The site now says “This is what I think, now.”
Quality Assurance
The act of preparing the content for an atemporal site is different as well.
It is no longer acceptable to merely see a pretty picture and reblog it in a knee-jerk manner - because, hey, I have infinite space anyway right?
The process becomes more conscious. Like in the old days of film cameras. You do not collect images en masse, you choose them. There is a value system erected.
The result is that what you see here represents the best images I’ve come across.
